Jahanian Combat Press is a small, independently owned publisher founded in New York City in 2019. We publish books, essays, and field notes about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — one careful title at a time.
We are not a magazine, a coaching company, or an academy. We publish printed books and a quarterly journal. Everything we make is edited in-house, designed by a single typesetter in Brooklyn, and printed in Long Island City.
Our authors are coaches, students, referees, and the occasional outsider. What unites them is a willingness to sit with a sentence as long as they sit with a position.
Each manuscript receives a minimum of three editorial passes — one structural, one line-by-line, and one read aloud, end to end, by a second editor.
Set in Cormorant Garamond and Inter. Books are typeset in InDesign, proofed on cotton stock, and revised against a physical mock-up before going to press.
Printing and binding take place within a fifteen-mile radius of our office. We pay our printer up front and on time. Always.
We ship from a small office on Geraldine Lane. Orders are picked, signed, and packed by hand. Tracking is included with every shipment.
We host quarterly reading nights for academies in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Coffee is provided. RSVP by phone.
We do not run advertising, we do not sell mailing lists, and we do not accept paid placement in our journal. Our income comes from books.
